Mauritius’s smart approach

To survive the economic climate and variable changes that occur year-on-year a country needs to be innovative, resilient to change, continuously seek to improve the quality of life and encourage investment. This is why Mauritius’ Smart Cities, such as Moka and Medine Smart Cities, are game changing developments for the African continent creating many more opportunities for growth and investment.

Olivier Desvaux de Marigyn from Medine Smart City shares in an interview that Mauritian Smart Cities are privately funded new projects and not redevelopments of existing cities or neighbourhoods. In light of Marigyn’s insight, we can see how this can help developers look ahead, and create a lifestyle that is sustainable, pioneering and of international standards.

ENL developers have already set out to up the ante with Moka Smart City as they apply to secure the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Neighbourhood Development (LEED-ND) certificate. This is an American certification that will help developers focus more on energy-saving and waste water recycling objectives.

“We have chosen to receive this certification in order to show that sustainable development is not just a theoretical principle for us. Once we will receive the certification, we will be the very first urban development project in Mauritius, and one of the rare ones in Africa, to obtain such a label,” explains Samuel de Gersigny, in charge of development in Moka Smart City.

Mauritius is a country to watch, as they continue to elevate the standards of living and create lifestyles that are forward thinking.
